Who turns up and who you are contracting with

The physical repair is performed by licensed and insured local contractors, and you are given the name of whoever is attending at the point the appointment is confirmed. From there, the estimate you sign off and the warranty handed over on the day constitute an agreement between you and that contractor directly. This site made the introduction; it is not a party to that agreement and does not claim to be.

Why no figure on this site is fixed

What California law gives you on a job like this

Worth knowing before you sign anything, and it applies to whoever you hire rather than only to us. Under the California Business and Professions Code, home improvement work above $500 requires a written contract, and that contract has to set out the work, the price, and an approximate start and completion date. The deposit a contractor may take is capped at $1,000 or ten percent of the contract price, whichever is the smaller figure, and demands for more than that are a breach rather than a negotiating position. You also have a three-day right to cancel a home improvement contract signed at your home, extended to five days if you are 65 or over. A contractor who treats any of that as optional is telling you something useful about the rest of the job.

Checking the license yourself

So do not take a license claim on trust from this site or any other: ask for the number, look it up, and confirm the status, the classification, the bond and the workers' compensation cover. Whether a permit is needed for a particular job depends on its scope, and if the property sits west of I-5 inside the coastal zone there may be a further consideration on top; both of those questions belong to the Carlsbad Building Division rather than to us.
